Well, no surprise here – I am behind in blogging again. Some comments on my last blog of Watkins Glen were about the rain. Even though the pictures don’t show it, it did rain. Luckily I was there long enough to work my hikes around the rain. Actually for 3 recent stops in the RV, I either set up in rain or just minutes before a storm. Twice I didn’t hook up for a few hours due to the lightening.
I stayed at Letchworth State Park in New York June 10 – 13. Letchworth is called “the Grand Canyon of the East” (another Grand Canyon) and is known for the waterfalls.
From this first view of the falls, you can just make out 2 of the waterfalls and the canyon. The second picture is a closeup, so it is easier to see the 2 falls.
The upper water fall has a railroad trestle just behind it.
One day, I took my lunch and was enjoying a picnic by this waterfall. I watched some kids walk out on the trestle for a short distance. While they were on it a train blew it’s whistle. They ran extremely fast to get off the trestle and within minutes the train was coming across it. I don’t think I would try that!!
I really enjoyed the waterfalls, but the canyon was great also -
I was attempting to take some closer pictures of this falls and the mist when a bird flew right in front of the camera exactly when I pressed the shutter. Of course if I was trying to take a picture of the bird, I would have missed the shot.
I went to the falls one morning just after sunrise and saw a beautiful rainbow.
There was a very short trail leading from the upper falls (the pictures above) to the middle falls (the picture below).
For a while, I wasn’t sure where I was headed next. I have to be in Wisconsin in August. But I wasn’t sure if I was going to cut across Canada, drive thru the UP (Upper Peninsula of Michigan) or go back down NY, thru Ohio and up Michigan to the UP then to Wisconsin. I finally decided to go the NY/Ohio route. My next blog will be several stops as I took few pictures. Just so you know, I am currently in Houghton, MI at one of the parks I stayed at last year.
Love the pictures of all the places we used to camp on family vacations. I forgot how pretty that area is.
