Fries, VA and Waynesville, NC

To catch up, I am going to post a lot of pictures with very few words!!.

I went to Fries New River Park in Fries, VA for several weeks in late June and early July, then again for a few weeks in October.   I love the biking and walking trail. (I didn’t love the snakes!) As I sat on my favorite bench on the trail, I watched hundreds of geese go over the “rapids”.  And the 4th of July fireworks were not bad for a small town.

I also went to Waynesville, NC twice staying at Creekwood Farms both times.  Once in the summer for a few weeks and then for a couple of weeks in late September and early October.  The last trip was planned to see the elks during mating season.  I had always wanted to hear the elks bugling. It was awesome!!  I went 3 or 4 mornings and one evening.  In addition, I did some scenic drives and short hikes.

Soco Falls is a neat double waterfall close to Maggie Valley in NC, which is not far from where I stayed.  There is a short trail leading to an overlook, but the best view is down a step, rocky, slippery trail to the bottom.  They did have some guide ropes to help.

Pictures from the Heintooga Round Bottom Road, the picture of the 2 track road is some of the better parts of this road!!  This road is off of the Blue Ridge Parkway, but leads to the Smokies.
